Entry Requirements for Visitors to Ireland

Passports - What Documents are Needed?
To enter Ireland, both the Republic and the North, you will need a passport valid for at least six months after your proposed date of departure.

Visitors to Ireland are generally exempt from any visa requirements if they hold a valid Canadian or US passport. If you plan to enter Ireland as a tourist

Note that if you plan to take up employment either in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland you will have to apply for a Working Visa first. Some exceptions are in place for bona-fide students.

There are no required vaccinations for entry into Ireland.

Irish Customs Regulations - What Can You Bring into Ireland?
Upon arrival in Ireland you will have to clear customs - an easy feat if you are playing by the rules. But just what are the rules? 

Customs within the European Union (EU) uses three channels - the blue channel is for travellers within the EU only and should not be used if your flight originated outside the EU. That leaves the green and red channels for transatlantic travellers. You must use the red channel if you have any goods to declare. Otherwise you may use the green channel, spot checks are possible here.

Certain goods may be imported under a license only or are totally forbidden:
The most important of these are: firearms and ammunition, explosives, dangerous drugs, indecent or obscene publications or electronic media, plants or bulbs, live or dead animals, hay or straw (even when used as packaging material) and meat and meat products.
